For after skiing you just have to choose between sports: heli-skiing, ice skating (natural), indoor pools, paragliding, mountain climbing, horse riding, sauna, gym ... and culture. If you choose this option, take a bus to Aosta and visit the Roman ruins. The camera will be particularly useful during your Italian vacation in Valtournenche!

The tourism of Valtournenche  is particularly  related to winter sports, especially skiing. The village of Breuil-Cervinia is one of the main tourist areas in the Alps, thanks to its magnificent view of the Matterhorn mountain and its renowned ski area, which also allow the connection with the famous Swiss resort of Zermatt and the glacier of Plateau Rosa (area of the Matterhorn Ski Paradise).

Since the seventies, also the town of Valtournenche has seen a growth of its tourist economy, previously linked only to the one  of Breuil-Cervinia. In 1974, in fact, with the opening of the 4-seater gondola Valtournenche-Salette
Vecchia Ovovia di Valtournenche
skiers began to know also Valtournenche as a tourist destination. The gondola, managed by the Cime Bianche company and born seven years before on the initiative of four young local entrepreneurs, served a long and technical track, called Reine Blanche or Gran Track Valtournence. In 1975 it was, therefore, opened the first skilift that reached the 2,896 m of the Lower Hill Cime Bianche. The ski lift served several tracks of medium and easy difficulty. In 1982, with the creation of the skilift Grand Sometta, the Valtournenche ski lift was connected, reaching the upper Hill of  Cime Bianche, with the ski resort of Breuil-Cervinia and then also with Zermatt.

The ski resort of Valtournenche also became a convenient access point to the ski lift of  Cervinia and Zermatt.

In the nineties the decrease of presence due to a diminution of the snowfall and ski lift  now too old, caused a change in the management of the station. The Company Cime Bianche became, in fact, a public company, and this allowed the station to modernize. In 1997, the 4-seater gondola Valtournenche-Salette was replaced by a modern cable car to 12 seats. Later, the first systems of artificial snow was realized. In 2006 most of the old lifts were dismantled to make way for modern chairlifts Motta, Du Col and Bec Carré. It was also enhanced the artificial snow system, which in 2008 was expanded also to Gran Pista, allowing return skis in Valtournenche in case of poor snow conditions.

For the future, the goal is to keep on improving the tourist offer, making year-on-year important  interventions both on the tracks and on the ski lifts.
